R. Fleurent distinguished himself for his landscape views, primarily of the coastal areas of France, his native land. Among his most beloved were the Côte d'Azur, Normandy, and Brittany.

His first training took place between the 1930s and 1940s, a period in which he achieved his first successes as a landscape painter and to which the painting in question can be attributed, with a style close to post-impressionism.

His brushstrokes are loose and dynamic, capturing the atmosphere rather than the realism of the place.
