The work is part of the “Dadachrome” cycle, a project that saw Lino Cairo collaborate with his colleague Andrea Sterpa on the creation of a series of abstract works based on the representation of human identity, the narrative of memory and the fragments that arise from it.
The project and its works were exhibited in Rome in 2003 in the exhibition of the same name.
As the title suggests, the canvas in question is a tribute to the artist Enrico Castellani, who became known in the mid-20th century for his nailed canvases (extroflections). It celebrates the spatial revolution, with canvases that create light and shadow - a transcendence of classical two-dimensionality through the volumetric manipulation of the canvas.
